BOOKS: “Before leaving the world” novel of a medieval man set to change the world

The novel, written by Ginevra Angeli and published by Ugo Bozzi publisher in 2000, is set in medieval times, and is about an handsome and rich young man, John of Assisi, his love for his parents Pica and Pietro Bernardone, his life-changing and how he loses his identity, name, and becomes another man… Francis. The novel about Francis goes over the historical documentation concerning the figure of the saint, and stops when he, no longer named John, left Assisi.

We talk about it with the author Ginevra Angeli.

Ginevra, why did you want to write this novel?

It was in the morning, some time ago, and I do not know what kind of impulse led me to the Eremo delle Carceri. Immediately I had a thrill in this place full of oozed spirituality. The silence, peace, nature, the air, the smells, the fresh but acrid smell of the undergrowth, the birds singing and the gentle spring breeze to join all in one thing: The permeate of the spirituality of the “Poverello” of Assisi. Invaded and permeated by this perception, I went through this magical journey (The Little Chapel, The Caves, The Little Cloister, Two Wells, one of which is powered by the Source of the “Miracle of the Water”, The Cave of S. Francis, etc.) and felt clearly, by my side, the presence of Brother Francis, as my most (more…)
